Early in our journey, we at Adarsh realized that there are a large number of children who are unable to utilize the various rehabilitation facilities available at different centers for various reasons like lack of awareness, financial constraints, logistical issues, severity of condition etc. The idea of Home-based Rehabilitation was conceptualized with the intention of taking rehabilitation services to the doorstep of such children. This programme, with 4 units, now operates in 12 panchayats, Ernakulam Corporation and 2 Municipalities. Rehabilitation assistance is being provided to around 150 children at their homes, at least once a week and sometimes more often, by a team comprising a physiotherapist, a special educator and an assistant and driver. Each team has a van at its disposal. Through this project, an additional 150 individuals of various ages receive services. Supported by BPCL-Kochi Refinery, this programme allows rehabilitation to widen its reach to the homes of children in remote areas.
