True to its name, Adarsh Charitable Trust, works, in all spheres of its activities, as a charitable organization. Thus, while it costs the Trust over Rs. 950 per month( based on the  working results of 2008-09 ) per child trained in its Institutes of Cerebral Palsy and Autism (primarily on account of the very high teacher- student ratio), the students are asked to pay as fees only what the parents can pay. And the tuition fee has been fixed now  at a maximum of Rs. 750 per month per child.(Govt of Kerala has recognised this as a reasonable figure and have , therefore, authorised local self govt bodies to reimburse special schools  ) Out of 180 children, this fee of Rs.750 is paid only by 60 children.

Similarly, for providing pick up and drop facilities for the children and their mothers from and to the school, the Trust has provided 6 vans, 4 of them owned and 2 taken on hire. On maintaining and running these vans, there was a deficit of Rs.24-30,000 in September 09 , between the expenditure incurred and the fees collected.

During 2008-09, on these two accounts, the deficit was Rs.8.43 lakhs & Rs.5.57 lakhs respectively.

The Institute of Community Based Rehabilitation Projects also depends on subsidies for  a lot of its activities, like arranging for medical and surgical treatment, not merely to children of Adarsh but also to those from the community.

Thus, the Trust finds itself, constantly in a position of having to approach individuals and corporate bodies for financial assistance. Adarsh is happy and grateful that such assistance has been forthcoming freely, not merely for its major projects like the new building (over Rs. 90 lakhs including the land), training equipment, machinery and equipment for the Institute of Vocational Training and vans, but also for day to day running of the school. This assistance comes in the form of sponsoring children for training and for medical help. The major contributors have been Shri. C. K. Menon, Masonic Lodge, Ernakulam, Kochi Refinery of BPCL, Kochi, Vestas India, Chennai, Shri. N.Krishnan, Executive Director, CLSA, Mumbai and many others, too numerous to list. Ever since Adarsh got listed by GIVE INDA Foundation of ICICI in August 2006, there has been a steady flow of donations from that agency, totaling over Rs.25 lakhs till July 2009,  including 2 major donations, one of Rs 10 lakhs for our new project for additional class rooms. We remain grateful to all these agencies and individuals for their understanding and consideration.

Major benefactors.

His financial contribution of over Rs.75 lakhs is the single largest contribution to Adarsh from any corporate body or individual. During his visits to Cochin he makes it a point to visit Adarsh and to interact with the active Trustees, teaching staff and children. His wise counsel and empathetic reaction, accompanied by appropriate help have made him an integral part and parcel of Adarsh.

Shri.Ramesh Kymal
Shri.Ramesh kymal, Managing Director Vestas India (Formerly NEG Micon), Chennai has been associated with Adarsh for over 3 years. It was his personal understanding of the working of Adarsh, the important role it is playing not merely in respect of children getting trained in Adasrsh but also in the community around that helped him to include Adarsh as one of the major projects of Vestas in its "Corporate Social Responsibility" sector. The financial help from them at regular intervals has been such that Adarsh has come to believe that whenever an urgent need arises, Vestas could be contacted and depended up on. So far their financial help has been Rs.18 lakhs.

Shri.N.Krishnan, Executive Director and Head of Research CLSA India Ltd, Mumbai has been a constant source of financial support and encouragement in many ways to Adarsh. GREETING CARDS DRAWN AND DESIGNED BY CHILDREN OF ADARSH

As part of our efforts to encourage the creative talents of the children and to give them an opportunity to exhibit their creative abilities, we have been, over the time, printing Greeting Cards out of the creations of children who are differently abled. This year also we have come out with 8 different cards. Your invaluable contribution by selecting one will enable us to expand our activities and horizons for various projects conceived and executed to help children with challenges.

Friends of Adarsh

The "Friends of Adarsh" group was started in 2000-01, having a particular section of the community in mind, that of people who could not devote much time or physical effort in the day to day running of the Trust, but were keen in helping Adarsh in some way or the other. It was realized that these people could pitch in with their help not only financial but also the resources at their disposal like qualitative suggestions to improve the working of the Trust, technical help, manpower, utilization of their contacts for furthering the activities of the Trust and involving more people from the society etc.

Initially though there were some results, it gradually became a dormant group. In early 2005, it was decided to revive this group once again and plans were on to actively involve existing members and add new members to this group, as we had realized that a project such as ours cannot proceed without active participation of the community. During the past one year this group has made outstanding contributions to the Trust. A meeting held on the 7th of May 05 was a grand success in one sense , that it enabled many new entrants to become aware of the happenings at the Trust. They gave many valuable suggestions. The outcome of the meeting has been mailed to all the members and we are quite happy that some significant developments have also taken place since then.
Initially when the group was started, it was decided to enroll members by collecting a one-time contribution of Rs. 500/- . But it has been decided that this will be discontinued for two reasons- one, for a group like this which needs to maintain a continuous and active relationship, a one time contact will not serve the purpose. Secondly, we also felt that the asking amount was no longer appropriate in today's society. So we proposed a sum of Rs.150/- per month, rounded off to Rs.2000/-per year, later revised to Rs.200/, rounded off to Rs. 3000/ per year, preferably given in a single or two installments in a year, to reduce the administrative work, which also realizes the outlined objectives.

Apart from the financial help, we would like the members to come out with more ideas for increasing the level of participation of the community, bringing in more members under "Friends of Adarsh", outlining steps for more organizational and corporate support, increasing awareness among the society as well as a time bound implementation of all these ideas.
