Spreading awareness about the problem of children with challenges and help setting up more such institutions at different centers. Any attempt to help these challenged children, to be effective, should begin from the micro level, by establishing centers in partnership with the parents of these children, community heads, philanthropically minded individuals, corporate bodies and associations. Practically, each such center can be accessed conveniently only by children from nearby areas.
There are places where setting up institutions like Adarsh would not be possible.
Nevertheless, children with challenges at these places cannot be neglected. Spreading awareness about this problem, counselling the mothers and educating them about the rudiments of proper care for disabled children through Home Based Rehabilitation groups would be the next best alternative. Adarsh proposes to initiate setting up such groups.
Developing the capacity of Adarsh to deal with more types of challenges like impairment in hearing, vision, speech, learning disorders, etc. in children with multiple disabilities. Obviously this has to be done with the help and support of medical professionals. A beginning has already been made in this direction, in respect of Opthalmologic, Orthopedic and ENT disciplines.
Medical science has progressed to the extent of being able to detect and diagnose new born children with potential disabilities. Early Intervention Therapy, in these cases, lowers the extent of disability, if not eliminating it altogether. Accordingly, Adarsh is keen to get the community to optimize utilization of this progress in medical science by organizing more At-Risk Baby Unit.
No such ambitious project can succeed without the whole hearted support of the community.
Adarsh caters to a number of children who belong to economically weaker sections of society. The cost of running such an institution is high on account of the very high faculty-student ratio, which is today about 1:4. Provision of transportation arrangements increases the cost. Obviously, it is not possible to recover the full cost from all the parents. Therefore, as soon as the assessment by the technical team is completed, and it is decided to admit a child, a sub committee of the executive committee meets the parent/s and discusses the fee that they can pay without difficulty. Generally, what a parent accepts as the level of fee that they can bear is alone levied. Thus there is normally a gap of about Rs.50,000 to Rs.60,000 per month, between the expenditure and income from fees. This gap is met by sponsorship of children and donations. However continuous effort is needed to fill this gap. To help donors, two steps have been taken by Adarsh.
Donations to Adarsh in all forms enjoy the benefit of exemption under section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961. It is valid up to valid till 31st March 2012.
Adarsh has also been registered by the Ministry of Home Affairs Govt. of India under section6(1) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976, with Registration number 052850473 and can now, therefore receive foreign contributions.
